Bruce Smith BSc MRICS, Chartered Quantity Surveyor is one of the founding Partners of Westminster Consultants. Bruce undertook his first commission to act as a monitoring surveyor for Dunbar & Co (later Dunbar Bank plc) in July 1982 and since then, together with the assistance of numerous bank colleagues and property professionals, has developed the role of the monitoring surveyor. Bruce has now been acting as an independent monitoring surveyor for financial institutions for over 35 years and is one of the leading experts in this area. Bruce also acts as a Law of Property Act Receiver and expert witness.

Outside of work Bruce’s interests include football, both playing (he plays for the England national amateur football team) and supporting (West Ham United).

Richard Tait BSc MRICS, Chartered Quantity Surveyor re-joined Westminster Consultants as a Partner in March 1998, having previously worked for the firm until 1992. In addition to having spent over 30 years developing the role of the funder’s independent monitoring surveyor, in his earlier career Richard gained valuable experience working for several national building contractors, including Trollope & Colls and Bernard Sunley & Sons. Richard is responsible for many current projects, business development, Practice administration and also acts as a Law of Property Act Receiver.

Outside of work Richard is a keen participant in several sports (cycling, skiing, golf) and enjoys long walks in the countryside with his dog, especially if it involves a pint of ale at the end of it.

Mike Hazelton FRICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor joined Westminster Consultants as a Partner on 1 April 2020. Mike has an exceptional wealth of experience in all areas of commercial property development having spent thirty years at one of the leading property and construction consultancies. Mike led many of the key accounts and will continue to foster and cement the close working relationships which Westminster Consultants enjoys with its clients. Mike worked on a number of large and complex developments covering the residential, retail, commercial, health and education sectors and brings this insight to the IMS role.

Mike’s responsibilities also include marketing and developing new business opportunities. Outside of work Mike is an avid sports fan, played rugby for many years, is a Level 2 qualified coach and rugby referee and supports Crystal Palace FC.
